Bel Aire man to stand trial in 2022 homicide

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Bel Aire man will stand trial in the 2022 stabbing death of a Wichita man.

It happened just before 5 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2022, in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2700 block of N. Amidon. Jayson Stalkup, 44, died from multiple stab wounds.

Bryce Johnston, 29, was arrested a few blocks from the crime scene after he crashed his vehicle. Johnston was originally found incompetent to stand trial and transferred to Larned State Hospital.

Affidavits detail alleged plot targeting 2 Kansas women

In March, he was found competent to stand trial. A preliminary hearing was held Friday in which Judge Eric Williams bound Johnston over for trial on a charge of first-degree murder.

A trial date has not been set.
