Bees scattered across highway in Selma after crash

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A truck carrying a shipment of bees was struck scattering thousands of bees across a section of highway in Selma, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, the crash took place around 2:45 a.m. on northbound Highway 99, south of Merced Street. A vehicle veered to the right shoulder, struck a guardrail, went back into the slow lane, and struck a truck carrying honey bees.

The CHP says it took around an hour to clear the swarming worker bees and load them onto another truck. It’s unknown where the shipment of bees was headed but officers say thousands of bees were saved due to the quick response.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
