BB gun shooting forces lockdown at Los Angeles County elementary school

Elementary students were placed on lockdown after someone fired a BB gun at their school in the Canyon Country neighborhood of Santa Clarita Wednesday.

The shooting was reported around 9:30 a.m. by staff at Mint Canyon Elementary School after a shot from a BB was fired at a school building, breaking a window, Sulphur Springs Union School District Superintendent Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi said.

All staff and students were safe and no injuries were reported, the superintendent added.

The school remained on a “soft lockdown” as Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies continued their investigation into the shooting.

Students are being allowed to go to the restroom and lunch will be served but students are not being released, the superintendent said.

Simi Valley High School placed on lockdown due to bomb threat

It was unclear if there was an ongoing search for the shooter or if a suspect was in custody.
