Baton Rouge hospital releases statement after woman accused of trying to kidnap baby

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Our Lady of the Lake Health released a statement Friday after a woman accused of trying to kidnap a baby from the children’s hospital was arrested Thursday.

Dinesty Selmon, 21, of Shreveport was charged with attempted kidnapping and seven counts of unauthorized entry of a business.

The police department said investigators learned in early March that Selmon made “multiple unauthorized visits” to the hospital, “casing multiple patients’ rooms.” An arrest warrant was obtained on March 12 and Selmon was arrested by the Bossier City Police Department on Tuesday, March 26.

Our Lady of the Lake Health released the following statement on Friday, March 29.

Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital is committed to providing a safe environment for those entrusted to our care during some of the most vulnerable moments of their young lives. As a best practice we continuously evaluate our security protocols and make adjustments, some visible and others not visible. After becoming aware of the malicious tactics employed by this individual and in coordination and consultation with law enforcement, we limited access to campus and implemented heightened visitation policies until law enforcement could neutralize any risk this person posed to our campus or community.”
