Bath awarded more than $9.3 million for natural gas infrastructure improvements

BATH, N.Y. (WETM) — The Village of Bath will soon be making updates to its natural gas infrastructure after more than $9 million was granted to the village by the federal government.

In a release from Congressman Nick Langworthy’s Office, the Village of Bath will get $9,377,000 in federal grant funding to replace natural gas pipelines in the area.

The funds are part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure and Safety Modernization Grant Program.

A chunk of $9,288,000 will go toward a pipeline construction project that will replace 11.9 miles of natural gas piping in Bath. The remaining $89,000 will go toward equipment designed to detect methane.

Mayor Michael Sweet spoke about being an advocate for protecting ratepayers and promoting American energy and natural gas in the southern tier.

“These funds are critical to advancing and re-investing in our infrastructure, so we can continue delivering safe, reliable, and affordable natural gas to homes and businesses across our community,” Sweet said.
