Barnabas School of Leadership awaits decision on future

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A Dothan charter school is waiting to determine its future of bringing the first of its kind to the Wiregrass area.

Barnabas School of Leadership staff tells WDHN News that the hearing went well and they are optimistic the charter school can open next year.

The state charter school commission has 30 days to decide whether to extend the charter school to open on August 25 or to revoke the charter school.

This comes after the charter commission said the Barnabas School of Leadership breached their contract.

They faced several challenges regarding preopening conditions, staff says they had a principal abruptly leave, and financial challenges.

Pastor Darryl Roberts, the founder of the charter school says they were pleased with the meeting but their lawyers have to present some paperwork to the revocation judge.

Both sides are working with a month timeline.

Roberts says if the charter commission revokes the license, they will have to re-apply to bring a charter school to Dothan.
