Life after the White House is an adjustment

Even though Barack Obama's tropical vacations are over, he's still traveling the world. The former president was the keynote speaker at the Seeds and Chips Global Food Innovation Summit in Milan on Tuesday, where he made a speech and then engaged in a conversation with former White House staffer Sam Kass on climate change. As Obama often does in speeches, he gave his wife Michelle Obama a shoutout—but not in the usual complimentary way. In this speech, Barack Obama gave us an inside look at their closet.

Kass began the conversation by asking how post-presidency life has been. "It is true that I'm not living in the White House anymore," Obama told him. "I actually enjoy being in my own house. I have been fighting Michelle to get more closet space. I have been trying to figure out how the coffeemaker works," he joked.

In the White House, Michelle reportedly had her own glam room, meaning she probably had plenty of space for her J.Crew and Christian Siriano outfits. Clothing storage didn't seem like it was much of an issue for Obama in the White House, either—on his episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Obama revealed that he picks out his own suit every morning.

The closet Obama is talking about is in the Washington, D.C., house the Obama family moved into after leaving the White House. However, closet space shouldn't be too much of an issue, as their home has nine bedrooms. Maybe they should renovate two bedrooms into separate closets.

Toward the beginning of his speech, Obama shared the significance of Italy to his family. "Let me first of all say that the last Obama that was here was Michelle Obama, and I know she is the bigger star, but she sends her greetings," he told the crowd. "Years ago, before anybody knew who we were, Michelle and I took a trip through Tuscany, and it was one of the most romantic vacations we ever had," he said with a smirk. "During our first term in the White House, we brought our girls to see the glories of Rome. Two years ago, Michelle came here to Milan, and I promise you, we're gonna be coming to Italy a lot in the years to come."

But at the end of his hour and a half onstage, Obama declared he had to get back to his family. "I've gotta go home and have dinner with my family," he said. "I don't know what's for dinner, though."
