Award-winning author to present at ASU

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Award-winning West Texas author S.J. Dahlstrom will visit Angelo State University for a special presentation hosted by the Friends of the Porter Henderson Library and the Dr. Arnoldo de Leon Department of History.

Dahlstrom’s presentation will be held on Thursday, April 25, at 6 p.m. in the Houston Harte University Center, located at 1910 Rosemont Drive. It is free and open to the public.

The acclaimed author of the “Wilder Good” young adult book series, Dahlstrom is expected to discuss his life, work and how to “Be Wilder” during the presentation. Afterward, a meet-and-greet reception and book signing will be held with light refreshments.

A fifth-generation Texan, Dahlstrom lives and writes in West Texas with his wife and children. He draws on his experiences as a cowboy, husband, father and founder of the Whetstone Boys Ranch for his books that center on Wilder Good, a young outdoorsman and adventurer who lives in rural Colorado. There are eight books in the series with a ninth on the way.

“I wrote these stories about Wilder Good for kids who grew up in the outdoors and for kids who long for the outdoors — working, fishing, hunting, farms, ranches, mountains and prairies,” Dahlstrom said. “We should not forget that we have real adventure to offer kids if we can have the courage to turn off our machines and screens and go outside.”

Dahlstrom’s books have garnered a host of awards, including:

  • Five Will Rogers Medallions

  • Three Wrangler Western Heritage Awards

  • Western Writers of America Spur Award

  • Four Lamplighter Award nominations

Dahlstrom’s ASU presentation is the spring 2024 installment of an ongoing lecture series sponsored by the Friends of the Porter Henderson Library and Dr. Arnoldo de Leon Department of History.
