State Route 8 northbound has reopened after being backed up for more than two hours through downtown Akron on Tuesday afternoon after a traffic incident along the expressway.

Akron fire Lt. Tim Morrison said a dump truck struck a median on the highway and crashed, scattering debris across both sides of Route 8. The driver was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he said. No other vehicles were involved.

An Ohio Department of Transportation camera showed debris in the road near Tallmadge Avenue and the truck resting against the concrete median wall. ODOT's website had said Route 8 was completely closed northbound.

Northbound traffic was backed up past the Central Interchange with drivers being forced to exit at Glenwood Avenue, based on ODOT camera images.

Southbound traffic had been delayed north of Tallmadge Avenue as of 5:20 p.m., but the backup had been greatly reduced by around 7 p.m.

The Akron Fire Department was called to the scene at 4:45 p.m. for an expanded traffic collision.

Further details were not available.
