Missing Averett University professor dead according to school

UPDATE 7:01 P.M. DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Averett University has announced that missing Associate Professor Dr. David Hanbury has died.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the heartbreaking update of the passing of Dr. David Hanbury. On behalf of the entire Averett community, we send our condolences and prayers of support to Dr. Hanbury’s family, friends and all others upon whom he had a lasting impact.”

One in custody, one injured after shots fired at Altavista home


DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — An associate professor and department co-chair from Averett University has been reported missing out of Orlando, according to a statement from the school Sunday.

Dr. David Hanbury was attending the Southeastern Psychological Association Conference and was last seen Friday evening says the university, who add the Orlando Police Department is considering him a missing person.

A dispatcher with OPD confirmed that a missing person case was filed Saturday but could not provide any more information.

Dr. Hanbury has been with the university for more than eight years and is an associate professor and co-chair of the Psychology Department and serves as the chair for the Division of Physical and Psychological Health Sciences.
