Aurora fatal shooting suspect arrested after crash near scene: Police

DENVER (KDVR) — An adult man died after a shooting in Aurora Friday night and a suspect is in custody, according to the Aurora Police Department.

Police said the shooting happened in the 3600 block of Zeno Way around 10:45 p.m.

Officers were called to a report of shots fired. When they arrived, they saw an adult man leaving the scene in a vehicle, according to police.

The car then crashed nearby. The suspect, identified as Gilbert Vermillion, 43, was taken to a nearby hospital for injuries received from falling out of the vehicle and was in police custody.

At the scene of the shooting, officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were attempted and he was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Police said Vermillion faces a first-degree murder charge. APD told FOX31 that Vermillion and the victim knew each other.
