Atmos asks customers to conserve gas amid ongoing service problems during cold weather
Atmos Energy is asking its customers to conserve gas as more North Texans are turning to it to keep their homes warm amid a bitter cold front sweeping across the region, KXAS reported.
The company said on Twitter on Friday that it was experiencing higher than normal call volumes due to the cold weather.
The issues come from low pressure in gas lines, according to KXAS. Residents in south Fort Worth, Arlington, Benbrook, Frisco and Grand Prairie reported low gas pressure, with some being without any gas since Thursday.
Low gas pressure caused North Richland Hills Centre and the NRH Library to close Friday, KXAS reported. Limiting gas usage could help Atmos in keeping gas power going and addressing pressure problems, the company said. In the meantime, it’s working to get service fully returned.
Dangerously cold weather is expected overnight into Saturday, with lows of 17 degrees forecast across Dallas-Fort Worth, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will briefly rise above freezing during the afternoon of Christmas Eve before dropping back down into the teens.
On Christmas Day, temperatures are forecast to rise above freezing in the afternoon, with highs for DFW forecast in the 40s. On Thursday, warmer weather will reach the region and bring highs into the 50s.
