Two suspects arrested, one still free in Gueydan ATM theft

UPDATE: GUEYDAN, La. (KLFY) — Authorities with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office have identified three suspects in connection with the burglary of Lougon’s Grocery Store where the ATM was stolen and the theft of a vehicle for stealing the pickup truck used in the incident. Two of the suspects have been arrested, but one still roams free.

The suspects that have been identified include:

  • Devonta Richard, 26, of Carencro

  • Deamonte Chatman, 26, of Opelousas

  • Reggie Green, 38, of Arnaudville

Richard was arrested on May 7 in Lafayette, with the help of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, according to VPSO. Authorities said Chatman was arrested on May 8 by LPSO deputies. Green, however, has not been caught, but a warrant has been obtained for the arrest.

ORIGINAL: GUEYDAN, La. (KLFY) — A store owned by a local police chief was robbed after a truck crashed into it early this morning, authorities said.

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, deputies were dispatched at about 2:30 a.m. today to Lougon’s Shopping Center in Gueydan on a report of someone crashing into the store and stealing the ATM.

Gueydan Police Chief Cru Delcambre confirmed to KLFY that he is the owner of the store.

Upon arrival, deputies were also notified that a damaged Dodge pickup truck was observed in a field off Elliot Road in Gueydan. Upon locating the vehicle, the disassembled ATM was found in the bed of the truck, along with building materials from the store. It was also determined that the vehicle had recently been stolen, authorities said.
