Greece has proposed the establishment of a pan-European air defence system, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an interview with broadcaster Skai on Thursday.

Mitsotakis said he had already submitted the proposal to his colleagues in the EU.

"I am thinking of a European air defence system that protects all European countries against any threat," said Mitsotakis. It would function in a similar way to the Israeli Iron Dome missile defence system, he said, and suggested that EU financial instruments should be used to fund air defence projects.
