ATCEMS medics celebrated during annual awards ceremony

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin-Travis County EMS closed out National EMS Week by celebrating medics during its annual awards ceremony at Austin City Hall on Friday.

EMS personnel were recognized for their accomplishments over the last year, and dozens of awards were presented to those who ATCEMS said went above and beyond the call of duty.

“24 hours a day, 365, long shifts. They do it in cold weather. They do it in hot weather. They do it in rainy weather. They are just phenomenal at what they do,” ATCEMS Chief of Staff Wesley Hopkins said. “This is just one small way that we can recognize their combined efforts because it should not go unnoticed by anybody.”

KXAN Meteorologist Kristen Currie was the Master of Ceremonies during the event.

The department also took time to recognize several promotions from recent years. The tradition was initially put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
