Arrest made Tuesday after shots fired in downtown Nyack

One man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with shots fired in downtown Nyack.

Orangetown Police Capt. Michael Shannon said an officer was patrolling the area near the Nyack Plaza apartments when gunshots were heard around 4:30 p.m.

The officer observed John F. Hall, 60, discarding a bag in a recycling bin near the apartments, which was later found to have the gun allegedly used in the shooting.

Shannon said the shots were fired in the air following an argument at the apartments and three bullet casings were found at the scene that matched the discarded gun.

Hall was arrested and charged with felony possession of a firearm but Shannon said it is still unclear who fired the shots.

The Artopee Way parking lot on Main Street and Franklin Street was roped off for several hours after the shooting occurred.
