Armed suspect in Wisconsin killed by police, Department of Justice investigating

BELOIT, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities say they are investigating an incident in which a suspect armed with two bladed weapons was killed by police Sunday morning in southern Wisconsin.

According to a release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ), officers with the Beloit Police Department responded to a 911 call at 9:46 a.m. near the 1700 block of Ashland Avenue in Beloit.

Upon arrival, police say they saw a suspect armed with two bladed weapons go towards another person. Officers instructed the suspect to put the weapons down, however, the suspect did not comply.

Police report that one of the officers then proceeded to fire their weapon at the suspect and successfully hit them.

Life-saving measures were performed on the suspect who was then taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

Officials say no one else was injured in this incident and, per agency policy, the involved officer is now on administrative leave.

At this time, no other information is available and an investigation into the incident is ongoing by the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
