Arkansas State Police arrest 2, confiscate 200-plus pounds of marijuana and over $10,000 in two traffic stops
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – What began as routine traffic stops ended with arrests and drug seizures for the Arkansas State Police over two days in May.
An ASP spokesperson said the situation began when a trooper pulled over a car at 6:45 p.m. on May 7 near the 99-mile marker on Interstate 40 in Pope County. When troopers searched the car they found five trash bags holding 120 wrapped one-pound bundles of marijuana and $9,350 in cash.

Officials said the driver of the car, 50-year-old Kristi Dortch of Eureka Springs, California, was taken to the Pope County Detention Center, where she is facing felony charges of possession with the purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple traffic violations. Dortch told investigators she was driving from Eureka Springs, California to Chatanooga, Tennessee.
In the second incident, a trooper pulled over a driver at 2:30 p.m. on May 13 in a traffic stop at the 172-mile marker on I-40 in Lonoke County. When the car was searched troopers found 115 pounds of marijuana on the car’s trunk, along with $1,005 in cash.
ASP safely locate 6-year-old from Little Rock
The driver, 41-year-old Shayla Cooper of Oklahoma City, was taken to the Lonoke Detention Center, where she is facing felony charges of possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. She told investigators she was driving from Oklahoma City to Atlanta, Georgia.
