FORT CHAFFEE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders is deploying dozens of Arkansas National Guardsmen to Texas.

40 guardsmen from the 142nd Field Artillery Brigade left Monday to support Operation Lone Star where they will be stationed until the end of May.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott says Operation Lone Star is the state’s attempt to end criminal activity at the border and it asks for donations for things like building its border wall and funding the buses of migrants it sends to other cities.

“I’m super excited to see how they’re going to provide both their discipline, their readiness, their competence, their character that they can bring and how they can really come and provide support to the Texas National Guard,” Brigade Commander Tye Parker said.

For some of these soldiers, this won’t be their first time going to Texas. 80 guardsmen were deployed last year to help Operation Lone Star.
