Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders orders flags to half-staff in memory of former Gov. David Pryor

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders ordered flags be flown at half-staff Monday to honor the late former state Gov. David Pryor.

Pryor served in several political roles in Arkansas, including U.S. representative, senator and in the Arkansas House of Representatives.

David Pryor, former Arkansas governor, U.S. congressman and senator, dies at 89

He received degrees in government and law before being elected in office. He was elected to the state House of Representatives in 1960. In 1966, he was elected to represent South Arkansas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Pryor served as Arkansas governor from 1975-1979, where he created the Department of Heritage. His last political seat was U.S. senator.

Funeral arrangements set for former Arkansas Gov. David Pryor

Pryor died on April 20 at the age of 89. He will lie in state at the Arkansas State Capitol Friday, April 26. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 27 at Second Presbyterian Church.
