Arkansans react to Boy Scouts name change

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- The Boy Scouts of America are changing their name for the first time in history.

The Boys Scouts will now be called Scouting America, a name that local James Stanley said is the right move.

“Opening up the Boys Scout to as many people as possible is the right move,” local James Stanley said.

The organization said the rebrand is a way of welcoming gay youth and girls into their ranks.

“Sometimes you have to change and sometimes change makes a difference,” Curtis Irvin, another local said.

In this case, the organization is looking to grow and diversify, opening its doors to all who want to join.

“I hope that anybody that wants to be a scout has the opportunity to be a scout,” Stanley said.

The organization will officially become Scouting America next year in February, but leaders are still expecting members to use Scouting America now.

“It’s going to be a great impact for boys and whoever wants to get involved with that,” Irvin said.
