APS students awarded National Merit Scholarships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Five Albuquerque Public Schools seniors have received National Merit Scholarships. They were chosen from a pool of 15,000 finalists. Each received a $2,500 scholarship.

They are Benjamin Bandy from the Nex Gen Academy, Iris Eisenman of El Dorado High, La Cueva’s Shayan Tarefder and Ariana Thiel-Hadjilambrinos, and Aileen Ukwuoma from the Early College Academy.

Applications open for New Mexico Gas Company Native American Scholarship Program

By the end of this year’s competition, more than 6,870 finalists will have been selected to receive National Merit Scholarships, totaling nearly $26 million.

Twenty-five hundred Merit Scholar designees were picked from more than 15,000 finalists in the scholarship program. Officials say the winners of the scholarship are finalists in each state and have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in college studies.
