April Sutor announces plan to seek District 3 seat as Olmsted County commissioner

May 17—ROCHESTER — April Sutor has officially announced plans to seek the District 3 seat on the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners.

"My extensive background in human and social services gives me a deep understanding of the diverse challenges our community faces," Sutor said in a statement announcing her campaign. "Now, I am eager to utilize my skills and experience to continue to serve the people of Olmsted County and address the pressing issues facing our children and families, working adults and seniors."

As the recently retired director of innovation and collaboration at Family Service Rochester, Sutor highlighted her four decades of experience working to empower individuals, build stronger communities and foster collaboration among residents, businesses, nonprofits and government.

Her priorities include: adequate, affordable housing for the county's growing older adult population and first-time homeowners; building a sustainable, resilient county; responsible fiscal policy balancing immediate and longterm costs; needs arising from increasing life and health spans; and implementation of the county's strategic plan.

"Throughout my career, collaboration has fueled success," she said. "Teamwork empowers us. Only together do we build strong families and ensure our most vulnerable have the support they need."

Sutor is the third candidate to announce plans to seek the seat in the district that covers much of eastern Rochester. The incumbent, Gregg Wright, said he plans to see another term. Karl Johnson has announced plans to seek the seat.

The two-week filing period for county seats in the Nov. 5 general election starts Tuesday, May 21, and ends June 3. If more than two candidates file, an Aug. 13 primary election will be held to narrow the field to two candidates for the general election ballot.
