Applications open again for Enterprise business incubator

ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN) — Do you want to be the next entrepreneur in Enterprise? Now’s your chance! Applications to become the next occupants of the Small Box Shop in Enterprise are open!

The Small Box Shop, an 8×20 retrofitted shipping container formerly known as the business incubator, is a space for up-and-coming entrepreneurs to test their small business concepts in the heart of Downtown Enterprise. It opened in the summer of 2023.

The application for the space requires prospective tenants to answer a series of questions about their businesses and products. Once submitted, the applications will be screened by Main Street Economic Vitality Committee members, who will then recommend them to the Enterprise City Council.

All applicants must have a current Enterprise business license, obtain personal property/rental insurance, and operate under agreed-upon business hours.

When a tenant is chosen, they will be allowed to occupy the incubator for six months and are only required to pay the $50/month rent. All prospective tenants

Applications end on Friday, April 19.

Over the past several months, the space has been occupied by Chuck Clark and his custom leather items shop, Clark’s Leather Works.

“I was excited when I saw the opportunity to apply,” said Clark. “I encourage anybody who’s thinking of doing business in Enterprise to just apply. You have nothing to lose, and you have everything to gain.”

His leather works business started in Virginia in 2017 and has grown in the Wiregrass. Clark, who has reached the end of his six-month occupation, is the second person to occupy the space since it opened.

“The Small Box Shop has become a springboard for entrepreneurs, offering them a platform to refine their business strategies and connect with the local community,” Main Street Enterprise Executive Director Mariah Montgomery said. “The space provides a low-cost, low-risk platform for business owners to showcase their products and services.”
