Applebees flapjack fundraiser supports Mentor North

Apr. 11—SUPERIOR — Pancake lovers can support a local program that pairs young people with caring adults during the Mentor North Flapjack Fundraiser from 8-10 a.m. Sunday, April 14, at the Superior Applebees.

The eighth grade leadership team from Superior Middle School will partner with Mentor North to serve a breakfast of pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage and coffee or juice. They will don Mentor North uniforms to seat guests, pour juice, plate up food and wipe down tables.

It's all about kids helping kids, said the leadership team's coach, Jill Prescott-Moerke.

Mentor North is a nonprofit organization

that matches young people in the community with a mentor.

"It's a program where they pair an adult with a youth and the money goes so they can do activities like roller skating or some fun activities with their mentor. They just hang out," said eighth grade leader McKenzzie Welch.

Mentoring is a way for youth to connect with caring adults and a reminder that someone is there to support them.

"They help kids and stuff and they spend time with them," said fellow eighth grade leader Leighton Hanson.

Half of the meal cost will go to Mentor North to support local youth and families.

"It helps bring money to the people so they can do more fun stuff with their mentee," Hanson said.

Visit the Mentor North Facebook page for more information. Tickets can be

purchased online

or at the door. The cost is $11 for adults, $5.50 for mentors. Those who can't attend can also donate to the online link.
