APD hires 2 new officers
Apr. 23—ANDERSON — The Anderson Police Department received approval to hire two new police officers.
The Anderson Board of Public Safety Monday approved the hiring of an officer that had been working in Florida and the return of a second officer currently working in Noblesville.
The board approved the hiring of Derrick Sanon and Grant Newton.
Sanon is a graduate of Ben Davis High School and a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2019.
He has been working in Hillsborough County in Florida and moved back to Indiana with his wife and five children.
Newton previously worked in Anderson before transferring to the Noblesville Police Department.
Chief Mike Lee said the hiring brings the department's workforce to 107. The police department is budgeted for 110 members.
In other business, the Safety Board approved the demolition of four properties at the request of Todd Fisher, director of the Anderson Municipal Development Department.
Fisher said the owner of the property at 1016 West Fourth Street is making arrangements to pay for the demolition. He said the back of the house has collapsed.
The board approved the demolition of the residential property at 1624 West 22nd Street.
Fisher said the city attempted to demolish the structure in the past through the blight elimination program.
The board approved the demolition of two properties owned by TU Anderson Investments at 1025 West Ninth Street and 1028 West Tenth Street.
Fisher said if the owner wants to save the house at 1025 West Ninth Street he has to obtain the necessary permits.
He said the West Tenth Street house has suffered foundation damage as a result of a water leak.
