Another intersection to close from downtown Concord construction

CONCORD, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Another section of road has been closed by the long-term downtown Concord construction.

The intersection of Cabarrus Avenue and Union Street is scheduled to close on May 20, as part of the Downtown Concord Streetscape Project. The intersection is expected to be closed for approximately two months, weather dependent, while contractors work on the streetscape and update existing utilities.

During the closure, city leaders say the Municipal Parking Deck will remain accessible from both the Cabarrus Avenue and the Union Street entrances. Market Street also remains open for motorists to visit downtown businesses and access the city’s payment drop box.

The project has shut down sections of Union Street between Cabarrus and Corban Avenue since February 2023. Businesses in that stretch have reported struggles, and some have closed.
