Annual 6 County All-Star Classic back with new elements. Here’s what to expect

Saturday evening, the best and brightest senior basketball players in the Central Valley will play one of their final games in their high school uniforms at the 27th Six County All-Star Classic.

The historic local boys and girls basketball games will be at Modesto Junior College. The event put on by Modesto Slam-N-Jam organizer and MJC Athletics Hall of Famer Bobby Cole has featured a number of athletes who went on to play college and pro ball.

High school competition begins at 5:30 p.m. with the girls game. The boys play at 8. The night also will feature a boys vs. girls three-point competition and a boys dunk contest. Before the high school games, a game featuring eighth-grade teams made up of the top players from six local counties is scheduled for 4 p.m. Doors for the event open at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets will be available at the door, for cash purchase only. Adult tickets are $12, seniors (65 plus) are $10. K-12 students are $10 and youth players in grades K-8 wearing their basketball jerseys are $5.

The high school boys and girls rosters include players named to The Bee’s All-District teams. The Bee’s Girls Player of the Year, Sammy Lang, will compete for the Blue Team. Boys players Jace Beidleman from Ripon Christian, Jeremiah Bernard and Marcus Washington from Modesto Christian and Mario Williams of Venture Academy each captured Sac-Joaquin Section titles in their respective divisions. They will join forces for the Blue Team.

In addition to the new eighth-grade game at 4 p.m., cheerleaders will be a part of the event for the first time.

Event cheer coach Andrea Sanchez said she worked with Cole and local schools to organize a group of cheerleaders to showcase their athleticism and skill. Sanchez sent information to 50 schools and coaches who nominated one senior each to represent their teams at the game. The group includes cheerleaders from schools including Beyer, Enochs, Downey, Modesto, Mountain House, Oakdale and Lathrop. Cheerleaders will cheer during the games and perform halftime routines.

The boys Blue Team is led by coaches Tyler Rogers of Stone Ridge Christian and Lloyd Longeway of Sonora. Rogers led Stone Ridge to a 24-9 record and coached the team to the program’s first Sac-Joaquin Section championship. The Knights advanced to the NorCal Division VI semifinals. Under Longeway, Sonora went 18-11 overall and a perfect 10-0 in Mother Lode League play.

After leading Big Valley Christian to its first 20-plus-win season since 2007-08, Miles Scott will be one of the coaches leading the Red Team on Saturday. He is joined by Brennan Pope of Davis. A trio of Modesto Christian players, Dre’von Johnson, Judah Flores and Armon Naweed, join Downey’s Reuben Lewis, Beyer’s Prince Major and Weston Ranch’s Richard Banks.

Beyer’s Prince Major scores a 3-point basket on his way to a 38-point game in the Western Athletic Conference contest with Grace Davis at Beyer High School in Modesto, Calif., Friday, Feb. 2, 2024.

She will team up with Trans Valley League rivals Madi Duron and Jasmin Richardson of Hughson on the Girls Red Team. Elizabeth Webb and Kaitlyn Wu, who helped lead Pitman to a co-CCAL title, will play for their coach Parmine Randhawa one final time. Sierra’s Rudy Valencia will also coach.

Enochs’ Chris Ramsey will join McGill on the sidelines. They will coach two-time NorCal qualifiers Chancis Gamez and Rayne Tago of Riverbank, Marissa Renteria of Ceres and Taylor Mason of Patterson.
