Angel Island smoke is due to planned burn, according to SFFD

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Smoke seen from Angel Island Monday is from a planned burn event, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

“While you’re enjoying a beautiful day in San Francisco, please know that the smoke you may see on Angel Island is from a planned burn event,” SFFD said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Where to view the total eclipse in the Bay Area

The burn is being closely monitored by local authorities, according to SFFD. Smoke from the Angel Island fire may be visible from Marin, Contra Costa, Alameda and San Francisco counties, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

The burn is underway to reduce hazardous fuel loads, the BAAQMD said. The air district is advising residents to avoid exposure to the smoke. The burn is scheduled to continue through Wednesday.

Many people in SF and around the Bay Area are outside Monday to observe the total solar eclipse.
