The section of property at Vantage Point that holds Andy's Wine Bar has been sold to the establishment's owner.

Andy's Wine Bar was established in 2020 by Andy Bakko. The bar, located at 104 Water St. is a part of the Vantage Point property in Port Huron, was previously owned by Acheson Ventures. Bakko, who is also the owner of Wolverine Market, said he hopes to have some expansion at this location.

He said he is looking forward to having a great season once Andy's Wine Bar opens on April 12.

"It's just a beautiful spot on the water," Bakko said. "We just want to serve the people of Port Huron and beyond and just marvel at the fantastic location."

Andy's Wine Bar is set to be open from 5 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Bakko said he would like to extend the bar's hours by adding a day. He said it would most likely be Thursdays.

Other things Bakko would like to do with Andy's Wine Bar includes painting the outside of the building and potentially adding onto the building.

Acheson Ventures Vice President of Operations Mike DeLong said Bakko is a great business owner and that Acheson Ventures felt it was fitting that he purchase that property. DeLong said this could stimulate future development for the Vantage Point area.

DeLong said when the team at Acheson Ventures saw it as a good thing for the development of the property, a good thing for Bakko and a good thing for Port Huron overall.

"It makes another permanent establishment for downtown," he said. "That was one of Mr. Acheson's favorite social places, too. He loved that place."

DeLong declined to comment on the cost of the property sold to Andy's Wine Bar.

Bakko said the bar's main objective is to offer the best variety of wine to its customers.

Bakko said the location of Andy's Wine Bar is very relaxing and overall beautiful, especially in the summer. He said people love to watch the freighters go by while having their drinks.
