SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — People in San Diego will be able to see an ancient relic believed to contain the remains of St. Jude Thaddeus during its visit to a Catholic church in San Diego.

The visit is a part of the Tour of the Relics of Saint Jude the Apostle, which began in September.

Several centuries ago, the arm of St. Jude was separated from the rest of his remains and placed in a wooden carving shaped in the gesture of giving a blessing, according to a website dedicated to the saint.

On Friday, the relic will make a stop at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church at 4124 Mt. Abraham Ave., the only San Diego church on its tour. Public veneration of the relic will be from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a mass in honor of St. Jude to take place at 7 p.m. To view the full schedule of stops in the tour, click here.

In Catholicism, St. Jude was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. St. Jude was also believed to be his cousin because his mother was the sister of Jesus’ mother, Mary. The rest of his remains are housed in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
