AMVETS opens new flag retirement drop box

May 23—A local veteran organization will help the community retire their old flags after opening a new drop box dedicated to the cause.

AMVETS Post 11 now has a flag retirement drop box located at the post in Duncan where the community can place their old and worn out flags for proper retirement.

Gayla Laufenberg, second vice, adjutant and service officers with Post 11, said the flag drop box is thanks to support for the project.

According to Laufenberg, the help came from VFW Post 5263 in Lawton, which donated the drop box; Caleb Jones, with Jones Power Washing for washing the box; Industrial Paint in Duncan for sandblasting the box; Josh Case, of Red River Technology Center, for painting the box; and Kevin Hammock, with Osage Auto Sales, for the decal on the box.

"This was a group effort with our community and our Post is honored to have the support of all of them to make this dream into a reality," Laufenberg said.

AMVETS Post 11 is located at 2115 1/2 West Beech Ave., Duncan.
