AMVETS kicks off Christmas early

Dec. 22—VALDOSTA — Hundreds of children got an early start to Christmas last Saturday thanks to Valdosta's AMVETS post.

AMVETS Post 607 hosted a Christmas get-together with food, gifts and a visit from St. Nick at its facility at 728 E. Hill Ave.

About 300 children were expected to receive toys at the event, toys collected by AMVETS, said J.D. Rice, Valdosta's former fire department chief and past AMVETS 607 post commander.
