In the bottom of the 8th inning of A’s game against the Cleveland Guardians, Hernaiz pinch-hit for leadoff hitter Ryan Noda. On the very first pitch Hernaiz saw in the big leagues, he swung and flied out to Guardians’ center fielder Tyler Freeman.
Hernaiz remained in the game and played third base and the A’s would go onto suffer a 8-0 loss to the Guardians on Opening Day.
Hernaiz is the first baseball player out of Americas High School to make it to the MLB.
