U.S. would love to vote 'for' a president

When anyone asks me whom I’m voting for, I answer “no one.“ I’m not voting for anyone but against someone. Although [President Joe] Biden has achievements in many areas, he has blundered on immigration and Gaza. His handwringing is not enough to counter the civilian destruction and carnage in Gaza. And congressional Republican reluctance to enact immigration reforms should not deter Biden from forceful actions. Even if the courts overturn his actions, he is doing something.

My dissatisfaction with Biden is much less than my fear of Donald Trump’s hardline, scorched-earth approach to these and other issues. Biden is the president but fails to use the “bully pulpit” or news conferences to highlight his successes and plans. This leaves many questioning his age and ability to inspire confidence. Like many, I would prefer different candidates. But, I am left with the uneasy feeling of voting against Trump rather than for Biden.

Sports coverage helps lifestyle

I just wanted to thank you for your efforts to get me to get out of the house more often. Until the last couple of years, rather than going to a local sporting event, I might stay home because I could be assured I could read extensive coverage in my newspaper the next day. Now, I am lucky if I get even the score the next day, let alone full coverage the day after. But if one of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ stub their toe, a full page will be devoted to that. The last best example was Saturday’s league leading InterMiami vs. the third place Red Bulls. You might have heard of InterMiami. They have the best soccer player on the planet. Messi scored a goal and shattered a MLS record of five assists in one game. Thank goodness I was there. Because if I depended on my newspaper, I might not know there is a soccer team and/or if he even played. Thank you for getting me out of the house and living a better lifestyle,

2024, a red-flag election

While reading the recent Eugene Robinson column, I was struck by his summation with respect to Donald Trump‘s recent interview in Time magazine. He says, regarding our vote in November: “Don’t say Trump didn’t warn us.” I contrast that with the article on page 2A: “Biden to let “Dreamers“ get healthcare coverage.“ Dreamers are defined elsewhere in the article as children brought here to the United States illegally. So I asked the same question of myself and other voters, don’t say you haven’t been warned, because I feel this is a clear march towards a more socialistic government. Somebody has to pay for this “free” healthcare.
