Amazon Driver saves 76-year-old NC woman involved in crash
ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The sixth sense of a Greensboro Amazon Driver saved a 76-year-old woman, who flipped her car into an embankment in Asheboro.
Shirley Roberts flipped her car over an embankment. Amazon Driver Amanda Smith was out doing deliveries off old Lexington Road in Asheboro when she spotted the crash.
“I thought I was seeing things at first … Something just came over me, and it didn’t feel right, so I pulled over … When I looked down the road, there was a car laid out,” Smith said.
After calling 911, Smith yelled to see if Shirley was OK, but no one responded.
Thankfully, others spotted her rescue efforts and jumped into action.
“They immediately jumped down the embankment, and they went down and checked on her and saw that she was alive and moving and OK,” Smith said

Soon after, crews with Westside Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and used a jaws-of-life tool to pry Shirley out of the car.
According to officials, it took nearly half an hour.
While Smith says she is glad her instincts kicked in to find Shirley, her daughter-in-law, Eleanor Roberts, credits a higher power.
“I’m a firm believer in God … I know that when she told me that, it was the Holy Spirit guiding her to show her that there was more than just a tire there,” Eleanor said.
Eleanor says her mother-in-law crashed trying to avoid a dog in the road.
She is currently in rehab after injuring her ribs, fingers and neck.
“She still has quite a bit of pain … Other than that, she’s going to be absolutely just fine,” Eleanor said.
The Roberts family is thankful for Smith’s quick-thinking
“She’s just a special young girl,” Eleanor said.
Last week, Amazon awarded Smith with the extra mile award during a surprise celebration for saving Shirley’s life.
