Alleghany Chief Deputy resigns after failing to report a crash on I-64

ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police say a former Alleghany County Chief Deputy resigned and has been charged with two misdemeanors after an accident in Alleghany County on Sunday, April 14.

According to VSP, a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 40-year-old Chief Deputy Chad D. Wickline of Clifton Forge, was driving east on I-64 near mile marker 10.6 when his vehicle ran off the side of the roadway and hit a guardrail. He was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in this crash.

State police said Wickline called a tow truck and allegedly left the scene without reporting the crash to police.

According to Alleghany County Sheriff Kyle Moore, he became aware of the crash and immediately instructed Wickline to contact VSP and report the crash, which he did.

In response to the incident, VSP charged Wickline with misdemeanor charges for Reckless Driving and Failure to Report an Accident.

According to the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, Chief Deputy Wickline chose to resign from his position.
