Alison Hammond received perhaps the greatest honour of her career on Friday's episode of This Morning when she finally got the chance to see her new Madame Tussauds waxwork. Hammond visited the expert sculptors last year to allow them to work on her likeness and can now see the result of that work.

The 49-year-old was emotional when she got to see the result of all of the work from the Madame Tussauds team. The waxwork will now go on display at the Madame Tussauds attraction in Blackpool.

Viewers saw a video package following Hammond as she travelled to the Madame Tussauds workshop to pose for her waxwork. The team took detailed models of her body and facial expression in order to produce the most accurate waxwork possible.

“I was standing for so long smiling that my face was killing and my thumb because I was doing it for hours," said Hammond of the process. "My thumb just went dead for the next few days. I was in a lot of pain."

When the finished product was finally unveiled in the studio, Hammond immediately exclaimed: "Wow, that is so good."

She added: "Oh god, I can see myself from behind. It's so weird I can't tell you. I think she's more beautiful. She's so nice. I reckon if you were going to Madame Tussauds, you would literally hook on to her and do a selfie."

Dermot O'Leary said he found it "quite overwhelming" to have several Alison Hammonds in the studio together. "I don't think I can handle more than one," he joked.

Hammond took a moment to thank the Madame Tussauds experts for all of the work they had put in on making the remarkable resemblance happen.

She said: "The team at Madame Tussauds, you have worked so hard and done such a good job. I can't believe I'm looking at myself. This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Look at the lashes."

O'Leary and Hammond had Jess Glynne on the sofa. She spoke about her return to the world of music after five years away, as well as her experience of running off stage at Glastonbury. The cast of Red Eye also joined the show to discuss the buzzy six-part thriller set on an aeroplane.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
