Alert: You Can Get Free Starbucks This Week
If you were invited to a random Facebook event promising free Starbucks drinks, good news: It wasn't your Farmville-loving aunt playing tricks on you. The chain has confirmed the "Meet for Macchiatos" event is real - and yes, you can score a free drink for stopping by one of the company's 25,000+ stores.
There are just a few details to know before getting your coffee fix: First, the event actually spans several days - from Aug. 3 through 7 - but in order to get the deal, you have to visit between 2 and 5 p.m. local time.
Second, it's a BOGO deal that applies to macchiatos specifically. Buy one, and get another of equal or lesser value for free. So if you're a caramel Frappuccino addict, you'll have to try something new (though, admittedly, the iced caramel macchiato tastes a lot like the caramel Frapp - only milkier).
Essentially, it's a way to promote their new-ish Iced Coconut Milk Macchiato and Cinnamon Almond Milk Macchiato. The former's a mix of espresso, coconut milk, and white chocolate mocha sauce, topped with a drizzle of caramel and mocha syrup. The latter tastes kind of like a liquified Cinnabon, made with almond milk, cinnamon dolce syrup and espresso. It sports a ground cinnamon and caramel sauce topping - to really hammer home that coffee-with-a-side-of-dessert flavor.
Whatever you go with, it's an excuse for a late afternoon, escape-the-cubicle coffee break. Not that you needed one.
