Albuquerque man charged with December murder

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque felon with an extensive criminal history has been arrested again this time on a murder charge. Raymond Davila, also known as Diablo, is charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence in the death of 44-year-old Eddie Diaz.

On December 31, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a neighbor who heard gunshots and saw Diaz’s Jeep crash into their fence. The witness also said he saw a man from the house where the gunshots came from get into a gold truck and drive. Deputies found Diaz blocks away with multiple gunshot wounds. He later died on scene. Police say a neighbor told deputies that days earlier, Diaz complained that a man named Diablo stole a gun from him and demanded it back.

On January 6, the Albuquerque Police Department responded to reports of a suspicious truck that had been painted black with the license plate removed. Through that, detectives found Davila’s connection to the crime. Davila was found and arrested Tuesday after he was found trespassing and giving officers a fake name.

KRQE News 13 has covered Davila in the past. Back in 2006, Davila was arrested for raping a woman, fleeing from police, and then leading deputies to a grass field in the Bosque where the cars sparked a fire.

Davila is being kept behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center until his trial.
