Hollinghurst began his career in 1988 with a groundbreaking debu, The Swimming Pool Library, and has since written five celebrated novels, winning the Man Booker Prize with The Line of Beauty in 2011.
His new novel, The Sparsholt Affair, tells the deeply moving story of closeted gay lives over the past century in Britain.
