Alamogordo Police report two fatalities in crash at White Sands Blvd. and 10th St.

Two people died in a three-car crash at the intersection of White Sands Blvd. and 10th St. on April 7.

Austin Dawhan, 23, was allegedly traveling 114 miles per hour down 10th street in a blue Chrysler Sebring when he ran a red light and collided with a Saturn driven by 73-year-old Susan Diane Narveson, according to a report by the Alamogordo Police Department.

Narveson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dawhan reportedly hit Narveson's vehicle so hard that the engine in her Saturn flew out of the vehicle and hit a third car, a Hyundai Santa Fe. The driver of that vehicle was reported to be okay with no injuries.

Dawhans vehicle eventually collided with a light post, according to the report, and firefighters had to extract him from it. Dawhan was bleeding from two wounds and gasping for air, according to the report.

Dawhan was flown to a hospital in El Paso where he was also pronounced dead.

Detective Zachariah Diaz, attempting to understand why Dawhan was traveling at such speeds, reportedly spoke with the man's mother who had no explanation.

Diaz said Dawhan had an ankle monitor on at the time, though records indicated Dawhan had not violated probation. Dawhan was sentenced to house arrest since June of 2023 after being arrested in 2020 on five felony charges.

Alamogordo Police said the crash is still under investigation and it remains unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
