Alabama voters: Deadlines to participate in the 2024 Primary Runoff Election

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Alabamians recently headed to the polls for Super Tuesday, but they are set to return as the Primary Runoff Election is quickly approaching.

Ballotpedia explains that in Alabama, “a candidate must win a majority of the vote in order to be declared the winner of a primary election. If no candidate wins the requisite majority, a runoff election must be held between the top two vote-getters to determine the winner.”

According to a press release from the Probate Court of Mobile County, the following dates are the deadlines to register to vote in the April 16 election.

  • In-person: March 29, 2024

  • By mail: March 30, 2024

  • Online: April 1, 2024

Those who wish to register to vote are encouraged to personally go to the Mobile County Board of Registrars to register. The office is located on the first floor of the Mobile County Government Center Annex at 151 Government Street, near the corner of Government Street and Royal Street.

In order to register to vote, a person needs to be:

  • 18 years of age and a United States Citizen

  • Live at the address provided on the application to register

  • Not be barred from voting by reason of a felony conviction

  • Not have been adjudged “mentally incompetent” in a court of law

Although voters must be at least 18 years old on or before April 16, 2024, to vote in the election, a person may register to vote in advance of his or her birthday.

Per the press release, Alabama law requires voters to vote at the poll of the precinct in which they reside. To update voting information to reflect a name or address change, contact the Board of Registrars at 251-574-85-86.
