Aiken Standard will switch to mail delivery June 4

Apr. 27—The Aiken Standard is switching the distribution method of its print product to mail delivery.

Effective with the Tuesday, June 4, edition, the U.S. Postal Service will deliver the Aiken Standard to subscribers.

The newspaper will be delivered directly to mail boxes via same day mail. This change will help maintain consistent delivery and uphold the Aiken Standard's commitment to local news coverage, Publisher Randy Mitchell said in a letter to subscribers.

"As with many other businesses, we've encountered challenges in contracting reliable carriers, making it increasingly difficult to ensure the timely delivery of your newspaper," Mitchell wrote. "Moreover, the escalating costs associated with printing and distribution have made it financially unsustainable for us to uphold the standard of quality journalism you deserve."

The newspaper will still print five days per week, Tuesday through Saturday, and will have online coverage at www.aikenstandard.com seven days a week. The E-Paper, the digital replica of the newspaper, also will be available each day.

Readers can also download the app to be notified of breaking news alerts throughout the day.

"Our commitment remains steadfast in keeping you informed on the top headlines in local news, business, events, sports and more through our local reporting team," Mitchell said.

The Aiken Standard's mission of being the area's trusted local source for news and information won't change, Executive Editor John Boyette said.

"We are still committed to covering local people, meetings and events, and tell you stories that no one else can," Boyette said. "We encourage everyone to check out our digital offerings, whether it's through our app, our website or social media."

"Thank you again for supporting local journalism," Mitchell said. "We truly appreciate the opportunity to serve you and hope you will count on us to be a trusted source of news and information in your community for years to come."
