Ah, So That's What Bran Was Doing During The Battle Of Winterfell

From Esquire

Game of Thrones fans have been bickering for the last couple of weeks over where the hell Bran Stark was at during the Battle of Winterfell in the third episode of the season.

For a bloke who could warg himself into the body of anyone at any time and pass on tactical messages - like a telepathic physio sprinting onto the field, magic sponge in hand - he seemed quite content to take a back seat and go into his glazed-over state.

One popular fan theory was that he was pretending to be away with the fairies to avoid having to do small talk with Theon Greyjoy, but according to the man himself, Isaac Hempstead Wright, that's not what he was up to.

"As far as I understand it, he’s just in the ravens," Hempstead Wright told the New York Times. "He’s just keeping tabs on the battle. But having lots of shots of ravens flying around wouldn’t be much of interest! And it would be pretty impractical for him to be like, 'Hey, Theon, can you go run over there and tell this guy to get out of the way of that guy?' Bran recognises that all he can do is sit there and let whatever happens, happen. We saw how quickly all their plans disintegrated! There would have been no chance of an efficient communication system."

So he's basically pulling a Dr Strange at the end of Infinity War, realising that the best thing he can do is not stick his oar in and risk making things more complicated. Very convenient, Bran. Hempstead Wright also torpedoed the lingering idea that he's actually the Night King.

"The Night King is dead," he said. "I can’t see how Bran is the Night King, or was the Night King." So there.
