Adirondack Mennonite Heritage Association to host guest speaker
Apr. 2—CROGHAN — Darvin L. Martin of Brownstown, Pennsylvania, will be the guest speaker for the annual meeting of the Adirondack Mennonite Heritage Association at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Croghan Mennonite Church, 7048 Kirschnerville Road.
Mr. Martin has been passionate about family history since his youth and began to explore ways to use DNA testing to solve family history puzzles since these tests were first offered more than 20 years ago. His interest in history, particularly local history not found in common textbooks, compelled him to blend a career of scientific research with the pursuit of his own ancestry, seeking to understand the lives of his Mennonite and Amish ancestors. Mr. Martin will expand from this, showing that DNA testing is a reliable way to gather information about one's forebears even in families with common surnames. The public is invited.
The Adirondack Mennonite Heritage Farm was built by the Moser brothers who settled in Lewis County in 1834. Today the farm, recognized by the National and State Registries of Historic Places, is run as a historical learning center dedicated to the preservation of Mennonite faith and culture and the way of life of Lewis County farmers.

The Mennonite Heritage Farm is will be open for visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from July to October and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays in July and August.
