Adams County teen’s final steps retraced a year after she was killed walking home

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — The family of a teen who was hit and killed while walking home near a school retraced her steps on the anniversary of the tragedy.

On April 11, 2023, Karalynn Kincaid was killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing East 76th Avenue at Leyden Street.

“We are basically doing Kara’s last walk to remember her and honor her,” said Kincaid’s mother, Crisie Langill.

The driver was eventually arrested, pleaded guilty and has been sentenced.

On Thursday, Kincaid’s mother and other members of the community walked the same stretch of the neighborhood the 16-year-old did before she was struck. The group carried candles or lit up cell phones.

In the year since, officials have erected a traffic bump outside the school and outside other schools in the county and Commerce City.

Langill said she is “encouraging people to slow down, to pay attention.”
