SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — United States Rep. Adam Schiff had his luggage stolen in San Francisco on Thursday, according to the Associated Press. The news was first reported in the San Francisco Chronicle. Schiff, who is running to fill the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s senate seat, was in San Francisco for a dinner at Fang Restaurant.

The thieves stole the candidate’s luggage from his car while it was parked in a downtown parking garage.

According to the Chronicle, Schiff also attended a dinner in Burlingame to thank SF attorney Joe Cotchett for supporting his campaign. Schiff posted a photo of himself at the restaurant on social media and is seen wearing shirt sleeves and a hiking vest, rather than the suit he regularly is seen in at campaign events.

A photo in the Chronicle story showed Schiff giving a speech in the same outfit he wore at Fang Restaurant while everyone else at the dinner wore suits and formal wear.

“Just had an incredible meal at Fang Restaurant in SF, and met Peter and Kathy Fang, the father and daughter team behind this amazing experience!” Schiff said on X, formerly Twitter. “This family has been in the restaurant business since 1988. Can confirm they make a killer vegetable dumpling.”

Schiff bested two other high-profile Democrats, Rep. Katie Porter and Bay Area Rep. Barbara Lee, in the primary election last month. He will square off against Republican Steve Garvey, a former Major League Baseball star with no previous political experience in the November general election.

The Burbank representative has roots in the Bay Area, having attended Monte Vista High School in Danville.

Despite reports of Rep. Schiff’s luggage being stolen vehicle property thefts are down nearly 50% from this time last year, according to crime data from the San Francisco Police Department.

KRON4 reached out to the Schiff campaign for comment on this story. We were referred back to the San Francisco Chronicle’s story. KRON4 also reached out to SFPD and were told there was no police report related to the incident.
