Police investigate 2 bomb threats at ACC South Campus
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police were investigating another reported bomb threat reported at Austin Community College’s south campus Wednesday afternoon, the school said on social media.
The second threat was cleared at 6 p.m., according to ACC, and the campus reopened on its regular schedule.
The first bomb threat was reported earlier in the day, according to the campus.
Around 5:15 p.m., evacuations for the second threat began for the south location, which is located at 1820 W Stassney Ln. All other campuses were operating on normal schedules.
Initial bomb threat at ACC
The same location was evacuated shortly after noon Wednesday due to a reported bomb threat. Around 2 p.m., the campus gave the “all-clear” from campus police.
“Following a full investigation and a thorough sweep of the buildings, no devices were found and the incident was determined to be unfounded,” ACC police said.
The “all-clear” was issued at approximately 1:45 p.m., according to ACC police.
According to a statement, faculty, staff and students were able to reoccupy the building, and classes and activities have since resumed.
According to ACC, no other campuses were impacted during the investigation.
ACC District said in a social media post at 12:07 p.m. that police were investigating a bomb threat on the campus and that it was being evacuated.
The school said it would provide updates on social media, the district’s homepage and directly to students and employees through the college’s emergency notification alert system.
A spokesperson for ACC said in an update shortly after 1 p.m. that the threat was unsubstantiated at the time, but police are still investigating, the campus is still evacuated, and the college is “taking all precautionary measures.” All classes and activities were also canceled until further notice.
The spokesperson said an email was shared through the college’s emergency notification system, letting students and staff know about the threat and telling them to avoid campus.
ACC said all students, employees, and community members should stay away from the area, and no one will be allowed on campus until an all-clear is announced.
