Abortion roundtable discussion held in Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Today (4/17/24), a discussion organized by the Biden-Harris campaign was held in Eau Claire discussing the future of abortion access. When Roe V Wade was overturned in 2022, abortion became illegal in the state because of an 1849 law that was still on the book. A Dane County Judge has since ruled that the law no longer applies. However, several restrictions on abortion services remain and Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin resumed providing those services.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has been approached to rule on the case challenging the 1849 law, but the court has not said whether it will take it up. That access to abortion is something some prospective voters are looking it. State Senator, Jodi Emerson, says, “Ever since the Dobbs decision reproductive health has been a main point of what these elections are about, whether it’s for a Supreme Court Justice, whether it is for the governor or the legislature, and it certainly is a huge difference in in the November election for the White House.”

We reached out to the Republican Party of Eau Claire County for comment about abortion access and what the party is hoping for in the future. They had no comment.
